Now that we know that less than 1% of the world's water is drinkable, tell us how you feel about the increased chance that all water may one day cost money to drink.  Imagine your school's water fountain cost $.25 each time you used it.  Is that fair?  Propose a solution to this problem.

  1. Only 1% of the world's water is drinkable?

  2. I don't think it would be fair at all if the school's water fountain cose $0.25 each time I used it! Students use it all the time!

  3. As the water supply shrinks it is possible that public water fountains may one day cost money to use. The privatization of water is hitting poor nations the hardest. We may be lucky enough to have bottled water in our homes and clean running water to cook and clean with but not everyone does. There is a great documentary called Tapped that is worth watching and may change how you feel about your own consumption of water.

  4. In school there is a club called Earth Keepers. In it, we garden and talk about saving the Earth. Earlier in the year, we collected water bottles. Over only one month, we collected SO MANY WATER BOTTLES! We also measured the amount of water that was left in the water bottles that were thrown away. There was also SO MUCH WATER! If people constantly waste water like this, as you said before, "Public water fountains may one day cost money to use." We also watched a video on tap vs bottled water. The topic is a little different than this blog, but if you are interested, you can watch it here: http://www.storyofstuff.org/movies-all/story-of-bottled-water/
